Pacific X-Treme Combat makes Phl debut
MANILA, Philippines - PACIFIC X-Treme Combat, Guam’s premiere mixed-martial arts events outfit, will bring its explosive action to the country with the launch of the PXC Philippines events starting June 11 at the Resorts World in Manila.
Fighters from Guam, Hawaii, the mainland United States, Brazil, Korea, and the Philippines will slug it out for the first-ever PXC Philippines at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of the Resorts World before an expected big crowd.
Tickets for the launching fights are now available through Ticket World outlets and its website.
The PXC has joined forces with TV5, the country’s fastest growing television network, to bring its high-powered action to millions of mixed martial arts enthusiasts in the Philippines.
“They’re exactly what we are looking for and exactly like us – aggressive, young and excited about producing mixed-martial arts events and expanding the sport in the region,” said EJ Calvo, PXC promoter and general manager.
“We selected TV5 as our partner in the Philippines because of its position in the market and focus on sports. We have exciting plans for growth in 2011 and confident the PXC will be huge in the Philippines, and will be viewed by millions,” Calvo added.
The June 11 event in Manila will be PXC’s 24th professional offering. Since the PXC broke into the limelight in 2004, it has been the driving force of MMA in Guam and the Micronesian region, creating an international stage for world-class athletes from several countries, and launching the professional careers of several MMA fighters.
The PXC has featured fighters who have had huge MMA careers in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, among them Dan Severn, Jeremy Horn, and Roy Nelson. Others who started in the PXC were Tyson Griffin, Rich Clementi, and Eben Kaneshiro.
“The PXC will send a Philippine fighter to the UFC before the PBA sends a basketball player to the NBA. That is our mission,” said Calvo, adding the outfit’s secret to success has been its ability to recruit, develop and showcase the best fighters in the region.
