Turqueza nears juniors chess crown

-

Manila, Philippines - Newly-crowned boys 20 under champion Mari Joseph Turqueza won three more games to zero in on the Phoenix Petroleum-National Juniors chess crown at the NCCC Mall in Davao City yesterday.

Turqueza, who ruled the boys 20 under division in last week’s Davao City Mayor Inday Sarah Duterte-National age-group championships, dominated Giovanni Mejia, John Ray Batucan and Vince Angelo Medina to remain unbeaten in six games.

He is now a full point ahead of top seed Sheider Nebato, Richelieu Salcedo, Jan Nigel Galan and Kevin Mirano.

in the tournament held to determine the country’s representative to the World Juniors set Aug.1 -16 in India.

Up next for Turqueza is Mirano, who moved into contention with a win over Davao City’s Austin Jacob Literatus.
