Bagumbayan triumphs in Coke Hoopla

MANILA, Philippines - Bagumbayan pulled off an 83-82 double overtime win over San Jose to highlight the opener of the second Coca-Cola Hoopla National Capital Region Intra-City elimination at the Navotas Sports Complex over the weekend.

Regulation ended at 45 then the second extra period was forged at 57 with Bagumbayan surviving San Jose to clinch the hard-earned win.

Cliffhangers also marked inaugural matches in two other cities with Sto. Domingo nipping Sto. Nino, 81-80, at Teacher’s Village in Cainta, and Black 4 edging Wagas, 64-61, at Brgy. 104, Zone 8 in Manila.

Three other teams cruised to victories with Malinta routing Brgy. Bignay, 92-67, at St. Jude-Malinta in Valenzuela; Brgy. Sta. Elena crushing Sto. Niño, 78-65, at Tambay Kay Lim court in Marikina; and Brgy. Dorotea Rd. blasting Grace Park, 74-62, at the Brgy. Dorotea Rd. court in Caloocan City.

A total cash prize of P500,000 is at stake in the tournament launched by JB Baylon, PBA Powerade Tigers governor and director for public affairs and communications of Coca-Cola Export Corp., with P250,000 going to the eventual NCR champion.

Meanwhile, action resumes today with a heavy 15-game schedule with 13 cities playing host, including Quezon City and Makati, which stage two matches each.

Wagas tries to rebound from an opening day loss as it battles Bukid at 6:30 p.m. at Brgy. 72, Zone 6 in Manila; WGI meets WGZ at 4 p.m. at Marik Subdivision in Cainta.

Brgy. Sta. Elena eyes a second win against Parang at 7 p.m. at Tambay Kay Lim in Marikina; Bagumbayan shoots for 2-0 against Tangos at 6 p.m. at the Navotas Sports Complex; homecourt advantage again belongs to Brgy. Dorotea Rd. when it goes up against Bagong Barrio at 4 p.m. at Brgy. Dorotea Rd. in Caloocan.
