V8 muscle cars take limelight in drag racing

Manila, Philippines - The title hunt goes a notch higher as 200 American V8 muscle cars and high-powered modified four cylinders hit the road tomorrow in the third and penultimate leg of the Petron Northern Series-2011 National Drag Racing Championship at the Clark International Speedway in Angeles City.

The event is sponsored by Petron, supported by Yokohama Philippines, Racing Beat@Wave 89.1 FM, Aeromed, and sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philipines.

The Quick 8 division will be the main battleground of the country’s fastest drivers led by defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing, who’s seeking his ninth consecutive Drag Racing Driver of the Year.

 Camaros and Chevrolets driven by Steve Caldwell and John Ryzia promise to draw the crowd as they bid to regain supremacy against equally strong four cylinder rivals led by Anthony Go of JCT-Blanche Racing, Pepi Santos of H3 Autoworks, Vannitec’s When When Dagondon, Vanni Garcia and Edward Pujol; Edwin Cayco of H3 Motorsports; William Hand of Ahra-Garage Power, Mato Tan of Group N; and Norman de la Peña of QSP.

As Anthony Go also hopes to keep the Pro Class crown, newcomer Angelo Chua guns for the Expert title against Martin Manalo of RSL and Rommel Dural.

Also seeking crucial victories are Van Owen Cruz of Cabspeed in the Sportsman class against Richard Reyes of Kapshop and Ronald de la Cruz of Mohspeed for the Sportsman title and Reynante Teves of SAS in the Hotstreet division Marky Baquiran of Kapshop and former champ Jeanette Go of JCT-Blanche Racing.against the Hotstreet
