Manila, Philippines - A total of 250 bikers, up from the 70 in 2010, will clash for honors and help the cause to conserve the environment in the Globe Cordillera Challenge, which will pass through 40 kms of mountain roads from Burnham Park to Benguet province’s capital of La Trinidad on May 21.
The event is the biggest environment-related activity focused on the Cordillera region.
Spearheaded by leading telecommunications provider Globe Telecom to elevate the public’s awareness about the importance of the Cordillera region, the participants will be flagged off at 6 a.m. to ride around Baguio and La Trinidad, Benguet before proceeding to the Benguet Provincial Capitol at an estimated time of arrival at 3 p.m.
“The Globe Cordillera Challenge last year enjoyed enormous success in terms of awareness and reaction from the public through their donations. This year, we raised the bar a little bit in terms of participation and scope of the challenge but the philosophy of doing our share and empowering our employees to help save the environment is still the same,” said Yoly Crisanto, head of Globe Corporate Communications.
The company, through its corporate social responsibility arm Globe Bridging Communities or Globe BridgeCom, again partnered with the Cordillera Conservation Trust (CCT), a non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to help preserve the Cordillera mountain ecosystem.
Globe hopes to raise enough funds to help plant 30,000 seedlings this year compared to last year’s target of 15,000. Also, CCT executive director JP Alipio hopes to use some of the funds to build small plant nurseries in the local communities and further encourage Cordillera mountain folks to take care of the environment.
Participants include bike enthusiasts from the Globe Adventure Club, employees of the Ayala Group of Companies and members of the Philippine Mountain Biking Forum, the Pinoy Mountain Biker Community, partners, sponsors, military and police personnel.
and media and celebrities.
For mountain bikers to participate, they must add the Globe Cordillera Challenge Facebook event page, click the registration button and send pertinent information. They then should wait for the e-mail from Globe Telecom confirming their registration.
After the registration, the biker will be asked to make a donation of at least P1,000.00 to the Cordillera Conservation Trust. Bikers may donate through G Cash (text DONATE <space> 1000 <space> MPIN <space> CORDI and send to 2882 or the Cordillera Conservation Trust BDO account Tignayan Para Iti
