Foscon, UST Ironcon score

-

Manila, Philippines - Foscon Ship Management and University of Santo Tomas-Ironcon Builders pulled off similar impressive victories to keep their hopes for an outright semis berths alive in the 2011 MBL Open basketball championship at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.

Foscon humbled CUSA heavyweight Manuel Luis Quezon University, 84-74, while UST-Ironcon outclassed Logohu, 89-66, to keep their 2-3 positions behind Hobe Bihon in the overall standings in this eight-team tournament supported by Smart Sports, Dickies Underwear and PRC Courier Services.

Former PBA players Orly Daroya and Niño Marquez provided the 1-2 scoring punch for Foscon, which jumped to a nearly double-digit lead and never looked back in posting its fifth win in six matches.

Daroya, who also played for the Philippine Patriots in the ABL, scattered 14 points, while Marquez, who suited up for Spring Cooking Oil and FedEx, added 12 points for the Intramuros-based team of coach Ricky Alcantara and owner-manager Chong Pal Kim.

Alfie Martinez, Jay-ar Bulangis, Jake Castro and Fil-Australian Terry Amir Laso played well for Foscon.

Jopher Custodio led the Sherman Crisostomo-mentored Stallions with 23 points, followed by Roy Urbano with 10.

UST-Ironcon drew big numbers from Jeric Teng and Chris Camus to roll back Logohu and improve to 4-1.
