Participants upbeat in Bosch race

-

MANILA, Philippines – Students from the country’s top engineering schools are excited to put their creations to a test in the Philippine leg of the Bosch Cordless Race Championships next month.

Participants from eight colleges and universities across the country were tasked to create race karts powered by Bosch cordless lithium-Ion power tools. The newly built race karts will take part in a time trial to be held at the Boomland Kart Track inside the CCP Complex in Pasay City on May 15.

The winning entry will be the country’s representative in the final race in Beijing in September.

Among the teams that have expressed confidence in winning the one-day time trial are the UP ME Drill Drivers from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Team RTU of Rizal Technological University and Team Siklab of Mapua Institute of Technology.

“Designing any machine is always a great and exciting challenge; a challenge that must be faced with the creativity and ingenuity that defines engineers. Driven by engineering passion, team UP will rise up to the challenge. See you at the checkered flag,” said a representative from UP.

“We know that we can conquer this challenge because we’ve planned it very well starting from the designs and right calculations, as well as in the canvassing and purchasing of materials to be used, and in the proper assembly and drive testing of the go-kart,” said Team RTU in a statement.

Not to be outdone, Mapua said that “Our experiences in related matters, the environment we have in our school and the lessons we learned are our basis on being positive and determined to meet the objective of winning this competition.”

Other participants in the event are Team Velocity (Technological Institute of the Philippines); KARTolinians (University of San Carlos); Team Rascalz (University of Mindanao-Davao); Team Don Bosco (Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong); and MIVEC Crew (Letran College-Calamba).

The inaugural Bosch Cordless Race Championships was held in Shanghai last year featuring teams from 14 colleges and universities across China. The overwhelming success of the event prompted organizers to hold regional legs in Thailand, Malaysia, China, South Korea and the Philippines this year.
