SSC, FEU tossers dispute last quarters berth
MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian tries to salvage its floundering campaign in the eighth Shakey’s V-League first conference as it taps the services of old hand Jeng Bualee of Thailand for its do-or-die match with Far Eastern U for the last quarterfinal berth today at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Bualee arrived last Friday in time for the Lady Stags’ final game in the elims, hoping to pump life into the team’s sagging quarterfinal chances after dropping all their three games.
The Lady Tams are also winless in three outings making their 4 p.m. encounter a knockout duel for the last quarters seat in Group A.
The power-hitting Bualee will replace guest players Suzanne Roces with SSC also enlisting Fil-Swiss libero Jennifer Salgado for Cherry Macatangay in the Lady Stags’ make-or-break bid in the season-opening conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
“We hope things will change with the entry of Jeng (Bualee) and Jennifer (Salgado),” said SSC mentor Roger Gorayeb.
With Salgado in the fold, the SSC tossers hope to improve their floor defense with Gorayeb also confident of his wards’ chances with the return of reigning two-time NCAA MVP Joy Benito from injury.
Adamson, meanwhile, takes on St. Benilde at 2 p.m., looking to close out its elims campaign on a 3-1 card in Group B of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Mikasa as official ball and Accel as official outfitter.
But the Blazers, who also tote a 0-3 card, are also going all out to stay in the hunt for a playoff for the last quarters seat against the National U Lady Bulldogs, who finished the elims with a 1-3 mark.
