Gumila rules Mamaril chess

MANILA, Philippines - Narciso Gumila scored 6.5 points then nipped Kenneth Reyes in the tiebreak to rule the fifth Primitivo “Steve” Mamaril Memorial chess tournament at the Barangay Barangka, Multipurpose Hall, Marikina City last Sunday.

Ruel Sto. Domingo finished with six points for third while Louie Salvador wound up fourth in the seven-round Swiss system tournament which drew 144 players.

Grandmaster Eugene Torre graced the event along with Rondina Magtanggol and Efren Laylo while present during awards rites were Marikina Chess Federation head Johnny Gaudia, Bernie Mamaril and NM Rudy Ibanez.

Michael Yongzon finished tied for fifth with 5.5 points with Director Romelio, Ferdinand Paet, Alvin Roma, Kyz Llantada, Timothy So Kua, Richel Lomocso, Jefferson Mansanero, Llyod Rubio and Rolando Tenorio.
