MANILA, Philippines - Eagle Ace Superal kept the winning tradition of her family by bagging the lone slot at stake in girls Class F even as Miguel Olivarez-Ilas, Josh Jorge and Sophia Blanco topped their respective divisions in the Junior World qualifying tournament of the ICTSI Jungolf Summer Circuit yesterday at the Riviera Sports Club in Silang, Cavite.
Superal, whose sisters Crystal and Princess and brother Wolen are all standouts of the jungolf circuit, streaked to a 16-stroke victory with a closing 75 for a 220 total as she assured herself of a slot in the Philippine delegation to the annual Junior World championships this coming July.
Philippine Airlines will fly Superal and the rest of the qualifiers to Los Angeles en route to the Junior World. The other sponsors of the event are Pancake House, Terriyaki Boy, Sizzlin Pepper, Golf Depot, McDonald’s, Duty Free, Friends of Jungolf, A Round of Golf and Inquirer Golf.
Olivarez-Ilas scored a 58-193 to hold off Sean Granada (60-197) in boys Class F where three slots are allotted. Ken Shibata (65-202) claimed the third sport.
Blanco showed why she’s one of the emerging stars in the jungolf ranks when she completed an 18-shot romp in Class E after a closing 66 with Tanoue placing second following a 73 for 223. Arnie Taguines, chalking up her best score in three days of 72, wound up third at 231.
Jorge was steady all throughout the 54-hole tourney, scoring rounds of 62, 60 and a 61 for a 183 that won him the boys Class E division by a whopping 11 strokes. Ramos and Andre Yuchengco salvaged the last two spots in the division with 63-199 and 74-214, respectively.
The 10 qualifiers from the lower divisions will join the rest of the qualifiers from the Classes A to D which will be held on April 25-28 at the Legends course of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.
