PCCI to host AKU and FCI confab, dog show

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Canine Club, Inc. (PCCI), the country’s purebred dog registration body most widely recognized internationally, has been chosen to host the AKU and FCI Asia and the Pacific Section Conference as well as the FCI Asia and the Pacific Section Show to be held in the Philippines next year.

A biennial event which serves as a forum on matters pertaining to purebred dog breeding, the event was first held in Japan in 2008 and attended each time by Asian Kennel Union (AKU) member-countries.

PCCI president Augusto Benedicto Santos III, as full member of the Tokyo-based AKU said, “It is our great honor to be chosen as the host of its second international congregation. It just shows how the Philippines, through PCCI, has gained the respect of the international community with regard to its programs for purebred dogs in the country.

“The conference will be a good venue to bring together stakeholders in mapping out strategies and action plans on how to further improve breed standards as well as regulations for purebreds.”

A nonstock, nonprofit, service-oriented corporation founded in 1963, PCCI is also a full member of the Belgium based Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and the sole body in the country with reciprocal agreements with the American Kennel Club (AKC), Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), and the Kennel Club of UK.

Santos himself is a member of the board of both the AKU and FCI Asia and the Pacific Section.

Aside from maintaining and preserving the integrity of the registry for pure-bred dogs in the Philippines, PCCI’s major functions also include promoting responsible pet ownership, organizing events that promote interest in and sustain the process of breeding quality dogs that conform breed standards, and taking whatever actions are necessary to protect and assure the rights of purebred dogs and their owners.
