Miranda, Feliciano stamp class in karting

MANILA, Philippines - The vastly-improved Daniel Miranda of Cebuana Lhuillier-Marcelo Racing captured the ROK Novice crown recently in the kickoff leg of the 2011 Petron Karting Super Series at the Carmona Circuit Philippines.

Miranda, the top Filipino finisher in the Asian Karting championship leg in Macau, put up a strong fight in the combined race, even beating other junior and senior karters in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by Petron, San Miguel Corp., Denso Iridium Power and Yokohama Phils.

Posting a fast time of 44.272 seconds, he clocked 14 minutes, 49.830 seconds to turn back Matthew Chan of Fern-C Racing and CJ Tsui of Tuason Racing for his second career win after ruling the Formula SL Novice final race last season.

But even more impressive were the feats of Fern-C Racing’s Sacha Feliciano and Carl Pollington, and Tuason Racing’s Raymond Cudala who scored big sweeps in their respective classes.

Feliciano, who was sidelined by a dislocated arm injury mid last year, hardly showed rust as she even upstaged all Expert karters in the combined race to capture the Formula SL Novice crown over Jaz Monzones of RP1-Natmo Asia and third placer Jason Ryan Difuntorum of AUTS.

Basti Escalante of Tuason Racing and Aira Medrano of FERN-C ended fourth and fifth, respectively.

Pollington, missing most of the races last year, also pulled an overwhelming triumph in the Mini-ROK division – reaching the finish line 49 seconds ahead of runner-up Vince Adrian Rojo, Jarond Mesina and Russel Rex King.

Cudala, a product of a Future champion search, proved his potentials ss he dominated the Cadet SQ class by a wide margin over runner-up William Casequin and AT Tuason. Tai Zulberti took fourth place while Stephen Taylor of Ready2Race wound up fifth.

The next leg is set April 16-17 at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
