Colt 45 race of champs under way

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s up-and-coming underbone riders show their wares in the first Colt 45 Motorcycle Race of Champions starting today at the Marikina City Hall grounds.

Aimed at discovering new talents for manufacturers looking for riders to banner their teams, the Marikina race will also serve as a kickoff for the city-hopping event, which will have three other legs preceding the National Championship in December in Manila.

Other races on tap this year are in Cabanatuan City from June 25-26, Cagayan De Oro City from Aug 6-7 and Cebu City from Oct.15-16. The National Championship from Dec. 17 to 18 is set at the Quirino Grand Stand in Manila.

Aside from the underbone race in the makeshift racetrack designed by TRS Racing led by four-time Superbikes champion Maico Buncio, the two-day event will also feature a motorcycle trade show and several activities promoting road safety.

Another component of the event sponsored by Colt 45 is a safety riding seminar, which is in line with Asia Brewery’s thrust of promoting responsible riding.

The event is actually Colt 45’s corporate social responsibility launch efforts at educating motorcycle riders in order to avoid accidents caused by riding under the influence of alcohol.

A motorcycle show participated in by manufacturers Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Kymco and Demak has also been lined up, along with a showcase of motorcycling related products and a free service check up by Guanzon Group of Companies.

Fun games, including gymkhana, slow race and trikhana (gymkhana for TODA) will be conducted by Suzuki Philippines Inc., while a custom bike competition headed by J2Cab motorcycle modifications is also scheduled. A poster-making contest will also be conducted by Suzuki Skydrive Society.

The two-day event is held in partnership with Two Wheel Enthusiasts Network, Inc., publishers of MotorCycle Magazine and Power Wheels and AirPhil Express, the event’s Official Carrier.

Ticket prices are pegged at P25, inclusive of a free Asia Brewery beverage of choice and a raffle entry.
