Mazo carries Black Water past Freego
MANILA, Philippines – Ian Mazo scored 16 of his 25 points in the third quarter as Black Water Perfume rallied to beat Freego Jeans, 104-81, for its second straight victory in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym yesterday.
Mazo hit seven of his nine shots in a blistering rally by the Elite, who overhauled a 14-point deficit in the second quarter to win pulling away.
Mazo also had five assists, two steals and one shot block while Andrian Celeda tossed in 23 points and Gerald Lapuz added 13 for Black Water, which improved to 2-1 for a share of Group A lead with Pharex, NLEX and PC Gilmore.
Freego Jeans fell to 0-3.
In the other game, Magi Sison and Brian Ilad took charge as Junior Powerade snapped a two-game skid with a 77-73 victory over fancied Cebuana Lhuillier.
Sison scored 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and held his own against the Gem’s big men. Ilad had six points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Tigers, who posted their first win in three games.
Marvin Hayes scored 14 points and James Sena added 12 for Cebuana Lhuillier, which dropped to 2-1 in Group B.
