Estanio seals title romp; Canja rules girls U-18

MANILA, Philippines - Rogelio Estanio Jr. completed his two-title romp in the Smart presents Head Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit 2011 Age-Group National Tennis Championship, ruling the 16- and 18-and-under divisions at the South Cotabato Sports Complex tennis courts in Koronadal City yesterday.

Estanio overwhelmed Jeleardo Amazona, 10-2, in their duel for the 16-and-under crown then thwarted Karl Magno, 10-4, in the 18-and-under finals to complete his domination of the tournament sponsored by Smart and Head and sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta).

Amazona, however, bounced back to capture the boys’ 14-and-under title, beating Christian Fel Lopez, 10-1, in the tournament backed by Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Head, the official ball, and Toalson.

In the girls’ 18-and-under championship, second seed Jzash Canja upset No. 1 Nikki Rei Arandia, 10-8. Arandia settled for the 16-and-under crown with a 10-6 victory over second seed Lenelyn Milo.

 Top seed Jenni Dizon defeated No. 2 Sharyl Delos Santos, 10-4, to win the girls’ 14-under crown, while Carlyn Bless Guarde trounced Mice Tagki, 10-4, in the girls’ 12-under finals. John Brian Otico won the boys’ 12-and-under title by beating Jaffary Cariga.

 Janus Ringia defeated Nicole Gorospe, 10-6, to rule the unisex 10-under division of the event which drew 112 players from General Santos City, Kabacan, Midsayap, Kidapawan, Mlang, Isulan, Koronadal, Davao City Davao Oriental, Davao Del Norte, North and South Cotabato City.
