MercedesTrophy Invitational on at Sta. Elena

MANILA, Philippines - The MercedesTrophy Invitational fires off today at Sta. Elena Golf Club with 216 players vying for berths in the team seeing action in the Asian Final.

The champions and runners-up in the three men’s divisions and the winner in the ladies side of the by-invitation event exclusive to Mercedes-Benz owners will make up the CATS Motors-Philippine squad competing in the Asian Final in August at the Hope Island and Glades Golf courses in Queensland, Australia.   

Cathay Pacific (CX), the official carrier of the event, will be flying them Down Under on board the airline’s new business class section which ensures passenger comfort and maximum space privacy.   

“Cathay Pacific is honored to be the official airline partner of the MercedesTrophy,” said Ed Higgs, country manager of Cathay Pacific Philippines. “We’re proud to fly them to the Asian Final where the best players qualify for the World Final in Stuttgart, Germany.”  

According to the organizers, the field will be divided according to handicaps with Division A for 0-12, B (13-20) and C (21-24). Format will be the Stableford scoring system while the sponsors, ladies and guests divisions will play System 36. The shotgun start is set at 10:30 a.m. after the ceremonial tee-off.   

A new Mercedes-Benz E250, equipped with the latest CDI BlueEfficiency engine, a Canon DSLR 60D camera and two TW Steel oversized watches are up for grabs as hole-in-one prizes in the sixth PHL edition of the event presented by Shell V-Power, PLDT Business Solutions and Smart Enterprise, Cathay Pacific, TW Steel and Arrow Shirts.  

Sta. Elena Properties, Makati Shangri-La, Security Bank, Titleist, Canon Phils., Seaboard-Eastern Insurance, Asia Brewery, Johnnie Walker, plus media partners Business Mirror and Inquirer Golf are the major sponsors.

Fabulous raffle prizes, including the latest D10 divers from Titleist, TW Steel oversized watches, Mercedes-Benz premium boutique items and Canon printers, are also up for grabs.
