10 NCR finalists to join Jr NBA Camp in April
MANILA, Philippines - Jr NBA holds its National Capital Region selection camp today with the organizers expecting a record turnout at the Xavier gym in San Juan, Greenhills.
Ten campers will be chosen at the end of the day-long camp who will join the other top regional campers of the 2011 Jr. NBA Philippines Program for the Jr. NBA National Training Camp in April.
The National Training Camp is the high point of the 2011 Jr. NBA Philippines Program where 10 Jr. NBA camp participants will be chosen at the end of a three-day boot camp for the Jr. NBA Philippines All Stars team.
The training camp will be held in Manila at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on April 9 and 10 with the final selection and scrimmages slated at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on April 11.
Meanwhile, 10 Laguna kids made it to the national training camp with Southern Luzon setting a record field of 310 kids at the Lakeshore Institute in Biñan Laguna.
Bacolod previously drew 246 participants when it staged its camp at St. John’s Institute last March 19.
The Laguna campers are John Miguel Sumagne of Holy Rosary College, Jared Bacarisa of Lai Verne Academy, Ramjor Dimaranan of University of Perpetual Help-Laguna, Carl Louie Casama, Lance Henrich Villanueva and John Weynard Fetesio of Cavite School of St. Mark, Frederick Tungcab Jr. of Rex Dei, Juan Carlo Garcia of Notre Dame of Greater Manila in Valenzuela, Kim Martin Baerllo of Mother Ecclasiae School and Jenny Jove Villanueva of Chair of St. Peter School.
Today’s Manila Regional Selection Camp participants will challenge in five skills stations: the Alaska Layup Station, the Hi-Smart Dribbling Station, the Gatorade Shooting Station, the BTV Passing Station and the Asia Miles Footwork Station. They will also be given vitals checks, tests of speed, stamina, flexibility and vertical leaping ability.
The top 40 with the highest scores in the tests and skills stations will join the scrimmage towards the end of the camp. The final 10 will be chosen based on their performance in the scrimmage.
The Manila camp will be led by coach Jama Mahlalela, NBA Asia director of basketball operations and Jr. NBA appointed Alaska coaches led by Jojo Lastimosa and Topex Robinson.
