National students beach volley March 23-24

MANILA, Philippines - The first National Students Beach Volleyball Championship will be held March 23-24 at the UE Beach Volleyball Court in Caloocan to determine the country’s representative to the first Asian University Beach Volley Championship set July 15-20 in Laizhou City, Shandong, China.

This was announced by Philippine Schools Volleyball Association (PSVA) chairman Diosdado Amante of EARIST State College and its president Robert Milton Calo of Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) which was tasked by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) to organize the qualifying tournament in Manila.

FESSAP president David Ong has signed a Memorandum of Agreement authorizing the PSVA to organize the first National Students Championship qualifying tournament.

The qualifying championship is being held in cooperation with the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA), Petron-Beach Volleyball Tour Association, and other affiliated league-organization members.

Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (CESAFI) commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy said women’s champion University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) will arrive tomorrow for the qualifying round. The players are Erika Camille Verano, Apple Saraum, Rexa Mae Gabriel and coach Thelma Datig.

Other teams competing are SCUAA champion Rizal Technological University, Petron-Beach Volley Tour Association champion University of the East, and host EARIST State College.

After the double round-robin elimination, the top two teams will clash in the finals with the winner qualifying for the Asian championship.
