Docyogen eyes 10th straight win in URCC
MANILA, Philippines - Defending pinweight champion Roy “Punisher” Docyogen tries to stretch his winning streak to 10 when he battles YawYan Buhawi’s Alvin “Sindikato” Ramirez in the featured match of the Universal Reality Combat Championship-Colt 45 XIX on April 2 at the World Trade Center in Pasay. The 28-year-old pride of the Lakay MMA has been undefeated since winning the pinweight crown in 2006.
Docyogen, one of three Lakay MMA fighters who will see action in the event presented by Colt 45 and backed by Chris Sports and Tribal Gear, went through some anxious moments before disposing of Ramirez the first time they met in 2009. While Docyogen has fought only once, beating Jordan Ogo of Saipan, last year, Ramirez has racked up two impressive wins, further boosting his confidence as he tries to get back at his tormentor. Co-headlining the event is the fight between Honorio “Rock” Banario and Davao’s KO King, Angelito “Saint” Manguray in the lightweight title match.
Flyweight champion Kevin “Silencer” Belingon, also of Lakay MMA, takes on Davao’s wonderboy in Isaac Tuling.
Also worth watching are the bantamweight showdown between Hideo “Death From Tokyo” Morikawa and Jessie “Finisher” Rafols and Karl Rodriguez, the brother of former light-heavyweight champion Fritz “Mandrill” Rodriguez, who will debut against former pro boxer-turned-MMA fighter Dowen ‘Rampage’ Dela Tonga.
In other matches it will be Bernard “Hitman” Soriano vs former teammate and sparring partner Charles “El Tigre” De Tomas, Visayas flyweight champion
Agustin “Demolisher” Delarmino vs Jilmar “Stone Cold” Tangayan of Davao, featherweight Andrew Benibe vs Michael Dan Rubio, Franz Altarejos vs Red “Filipino Bolo Punch” Romero and Deftac’s Chris Luna vs veteran Frank Navarro.
