UST-Ironcon scores second straight win

-

MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas-Ironcon Builders made it two wins in a row as it brought down Wang’s Ballclub, 81-63, in the 2011 MBL Open basketball championship at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.

The “Twin Towers” of Chris Camus and Kevin Ferrer outplayed Wang’s Ballclub’s big men in the shaded area, while Clark Bautista and Jeric Fortuna shone from the long court to lead the Tigers of coach Pido Jarencio and manager Jaime Lim to their second straight lopsided win in this eight-team, single-round tournament sponsored by Dickies Underwear, Smart Sports, PRC Couriers, WG Diners and Big Banner Tarpaulin Printing.

Camus finished with a game-high 13 points, while Ferrer added 12 points for UST-Ironcon, which led from start to finish in claiming its second straight win following a 92-79 win over FESSAP-Asian University champion Lyceum of the Philippines-Uratex on opening day last March 8.

Bautista, Fortuna and Cameroonian recruit Karin Abdul added 11 points each.

Jeric Teng, who exploded with 21 points in UST’s win over Lyceum, saw limited action and finished with only five points.

Former University of Manila standout Ryan Regalado carried the fight for Wang’s Ballclub with 12 points, followed by ex-pros Jonathan Aldave and Biboy Simon with 10 points apiece.
