MANILA, Philippines - Anna Clarice Patrimonio bowed to Yuliya Lysa of Ukraine, 3-6, 2-6, while Jeson Patrombon drew a first round bye in the 17th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup 2011 in Kuching, Malaysia yesterday.
Patrombon, who slid from No. 9 to No. 10 in the current International Tennis Federation juniors rankings, will take on unheralded American Emmet Egger as he tries to atone for his failed title bid in Thailand last week.
Egger trailed Trongcharoenchaikul Wishaya of Thailand, 6-3, 3-6, 3-4, in their first round duel but the Thai retired due to injury, enabling the American to advance.
Patrimonio, meanwhile, failed to sustain the momentum of her victory in a Grade 4 ITF event in Brunei recently as she rammed into a power-hitting Ukrainian rival and lost.
