UE clinches last quarterfinal berth in Shakey's girls volley

-

MANILA, Philippines - University of the East outfoxed University of Perpetual Help-Molino in a closely fought duel, 28-26, 25-23, to clinch the last quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at San Juan gym last weekend.

The young Lady Warriors came through with key shots in an extended first set duel then turned back their Cavite-based rivals in the next frame to complete the hard-earned straight-set victory.

UE also toppled Elizabeth Seton School at the close of the single round elims of the four-division tournament to finish with a 3-1 slate and take the No. 2 slot in Pool D.

UPH-Molino wound up with a 2-2 card in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s and backed by LBC, Toby’s Sports, Mikasa, Asics and Metro Sports.

UE thus joined Pool D No. 1 De La Salle-Lipa and defending champion Hope Christian High School and UPH-Laguna (Pool A), St. Scholastica’s College and Univ. of Santo Tomas (Pool B), Colegio San Agustin and Angeles Univ. Foundation (Pool C) in the Last 8 phase slated this weekend.

Meanwhile, CSA, behind Ingrid Reyes and Jamie Morado’s combined 24-hit output, trounced AUF, 25-22, 25-15, to notch the top spot in Pool C.

CSA will take on UE while AUF battles St. Scho in the quarterfinals Sunday.

In other results, Hope CHS, drawing 27 points from Carol Cerveza, Desiree Cheng and Ciene Cruz, routed DLS-Canlubang, 25-5, 25-8. The defending champion will play UST in the quarters.
