Xavier star on the rise

MANILA, Philippines –  For all the feats he has reaped in his young cage career, Jeron Teng relishes his performance in the recent Freego Tiong Lian basketball tournament most.

Aside from winning his second MVP honors, the Xavier star made history by exploding for 104 points during the elimination round.

The 16-year-old Teng, one of the players backed by Mighty Sports Association under its developmental program, consistently dished out double-double games to win 14 Best Player awards out of a possible 15.

For the second straight year, the World Youth Olympic veteran emerged as the scoring champion with 39.5 points – the biggest in years. The 6-1 talent also topped the rebounding (14.3) and steals (3.88). He was No. 2 in field goal percentage at .520 and assists with 4.3 per game.

He highlighted his sterling stint this year by leading Xavier School – also backed by MSA – to a record fourth straight championship and 10th overall.

With still one playing year left, Teng is tipped to steer Xavier to another championship run again.
