UPH-Molino, UE clash for last quarterfinal berth

MANILA, Philippines –  University of Perpetual Help-Molino and University of the East clash today for the last quarterfinal seat even as Hope Christian High School, Colegio San Agustin and Angeles Univ. Foundation go for a pair of sweeps in their respective divisions in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at the San Juan gym.

The Cavite-based squad and the Junior Lady Warriors square off at 1 p.m. in what is tipped to be a down-to-the-wire contest with the winner joining seven other teams into the Last 8 of the eighth staging of the league sponsored by Shakey’s.

UPH-Molino totes a 2-1 slate and needs no less than a win over UE to clinch the other quarters berth in Pool D of the four-division tournament. The Recto-based team has an even 1-1 card and will close out its elims campaign against winless Elizabeth Seton School tomorrow.

UE will be coming off a two-week break but is expected to come out strong while UPH-Molino toppled ESS last week to remain in the hunt for a spot in the next round of the tournament backed by LBC, Toby’s Sports, Mikasa, Asics and Metro Sports.

Gametime is at 1 p.m.

Defending champion Hope CHS, meanwhile, primes up for the quarters as it takes on DLS-Canlubang at 10 a.m. in Pool A action, hoping to match St. Scholastica’s College sweep of Pool B.
