MANILA, Philippines - Alabang opened its title-retention bid with a 3-1 mastery of Valley even as Forest Hills and Orchard pulled off similar wins over separate rivals at the start of the Ladies Federation League at various courses recently.
The featured match between Sta. Elena and Tagaytay Highlands ended in a 2-2 draw.
Close wins by Marjorie Lopingco-Joan Morales in best-ball and Cristine Pop-Greely Oposa in greensomes and a blowout win by Marilyn Reyes-Bingbing Feliciano did the trick for Alabang in a home game opening the season.
Orchard, meanwhile, was impressive in a 3-1 victory over Riviera with Marissa Romano-Amy Dy (greensomes), Abby Lapid-Lily Yoshiro (best-ball) and Asian jungolf champion Princess Superal teaming up with Merle Laset for the high-low point.
Forest Hills served notice of its championship bid by outplaying Manila Southwood, 3-1, highlighted by the 1 up victory of Monique Ignacio-Jonah Ilagan in best-ball. Also winning for Forest were Mi Hee Kwah and Masa Tsai in greensomes and Nelda Roguel-Christine Lava in aggregate.
Rowena Royena-Rio Co saved the day for Sta. Elena by taking the bestball point after Tagaytay took the greensomes (Marvi Monsalve-Jessallyn Tan) and aggregate (Sandy Romualdez-Totelle Dimson). Erika Morihiro-Misako Ogihara earlier delivered the first point for Sta. Elena in high-low.
