Yakult 10-Miler hits road on March 27

-

MANILA, Philippines - Yakult returns to the streets anew with the staging of the 22nd Annual Yakult 10-Miler run on March 27 on a route starting and finishing at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Close to 2,500 male and female runners are taking part in the country’s premier 10-mile footrace now on its 22nd year since the organizers introduced the event to the running scene in 1990.

Registration starts today at Mizuno outlets in Trinoma Mall, in Quezon City, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong and at the Bonifacio High Street at the Bonifacio Global City.

Registration fee is P300 and ends on March 21.

Participants will receive singlets upon registration and all finishers will get Yakult t-shirts, certificate of completion and the Yakult health drink with lacto bacilii shirota strain.

Prominent long distance runners plus a horde of upcoming racers seeking recognition are competing in the 10-miler.

There will also be a 5K fun run and a 3K kiddie run aside from the 10-miler main race, according to Michael Ong, Yakult Phils. Inc, manager-sales and planning.

The top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s division will receive cash prizes apart from the Yakult energy drink.

Last year’s edition was won by Rene Herrera (53:23) and Maricel Maquilan (1:05:14) in the men’s and women’s division.

Herrera and Maquilan are expected to encounter rough sailing from other runners who are out to end their dominance.

Yakult started as a monthly running circuit in 1982 as one of the support sponsors of the Philippine Airlines Manila International Marathon until 1990 when the monthly running circuit was converted to a 16k run and became the pioneer 10-miler in the country.
