Natividad-Widjaya leads Badminton open winners
MANILA, Philippines – National players Ato Natividad and Rudy Widjaya led all champions in the first week of the 2011 Prima Pasta Invitational Badminton Open Championships over the weekend at the Powersmash courts in Pasong Tamo, Makati City.
Natividad and Widjaya survived Arolas Amahit and Ronel Estanislao, 21-23, 21-16, 21-13, to pocket the men’s open doubles crown of the week-long event sponsored by Prima Pasta, Boysen Paints, RFM, Mabz Builders, Pioneer Life, Prince, ILO Construction, Monolith Construction, Promax Intl., Carlton, Amstar.
Gelita Castilo and Dia Magno beat Jubie Vallarta and Abel Villaran, 21-11, 21-19, to gain the women’s doubles class A title of the event supported also by Axis Construction, Jones Lang, La Salle Lee Chiu, Jose Siao Ling & Associates, Sincere Construction, U2 Electrical, First Life Financial Co., Belarmino & Associates, Mega Subic Terminal Services, Glasscape, EYP, Unipack Plastics, Silverstar Petroleum, Waterlite Engineering, Philbless, Morning Star Milling, Regent foods, Del Montel Phils., 99.5 RT and Yoshinoya.
Other men’s doubles champions in the first week were Wilfredo Amoroso and Edison Cupcupin (Class A); RP-Allied’s Kenneth Monterubio and Gerald Sibayan (Class B); Ruel Inciong and Edward Namuco (Class C); Leonard Balinguit and Rico Tabios (Class D); Joseph Dublin and Noelito Pascua (Class E); Jojo Meilat and Emil Tausa (Class F); and Ramil Apad and Albert Fabayos (Class G).
Other women’s doubles champions were Jacqui Abangan and Ann Fronteras (Class B); Aries Montilla and Kristelle Salatan (Class C); Lalaine Gopez and Luningning Sapinit (Class D); Chantel Nieto and Kim Occidental (Class E); and Diane Zerna and Haide Zerna (Class F).
The mixed doubles and junior events of the tournament organized by event chairman Alex Lim are scheduled next week.
