Petron Northern Series stages second leg
MANILA, Philippines - The Petron Northern Series-2011 National Drag Racing Championship holds its second leg today with another banner field disputing top honors at the Clark International Speedway in Angeles City.
With over 200 drivers joining the weekend race, drag racing director Fil Gulfin has advised all participants to come early for the qualifying time trials with the race proper firing off at 10 a.m.
Allen Dizon pulled off a surprise victory in the kickoff leg recently with the other unfancied bets hoping to duplicate the feat against the favorites, led by reigning titlist Jonathan Tiu, Pro class champion Anthony Go, John Ryzia and Steve Caldwell.
“The competition has leveled up and we expect this year’s title hunt to be more intense than before,” said Gulfin.
Others seeing action in the event, sponsored by Petron and backed by Yokohama Philippines, Racing Beat@Wave 89.1 FM, Aeromed, and sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines., are ace lady driver When When Dagondon, Vanni Garcia and Edward Pujol of Vannitec, William Hand of Ahra-Garage Power, San Mariano, Isabela racing brothers Ed Christian and Ed Christopher Go; Mato Tan of Group N; Vanni Garcia and Norman de la Peña of QSP.
Pepi Santos of H3 Motorsports is also gunning for his second win this season and his fifth straight victory since last year up against a highly competitive field in the Quick 8 division while William Hand seeks his second straight in the Super Pro class.
Also favored are Lennel Diaz of Mohspeed against Michael Nieves and Sherwin Esguerra in the Expert class, Richard Reyes of Kap Shop against Rommel Dural and Jannery Millet in the Sportsman division, and Choc Castro against Rainier Bondoc and Jefferson Barrera in the Hotstreet category.
