Cebu's Plantation Bay ready for Davis Cup tie

CEBU ,Philippines  – Plantation Bay Resort and Spa is now ready to host the Davis Cup tie between Japan and the Philippines on March 4-6.

For the third year in a row, Cebu’s premier Plantation Bay Resort and Spa has been recognized as one of the Top 20 resorts in Asia by the Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

Its clay court is already complete with the 1,500 seating capacity bleachers from the Lapu-Lapu City Government set be installed soon.

“The bleachers are expected to be delivered on Feb. 17. But as far as preparations here at Plantation Bay is concerned, we’re ready for the Davis Cup,” Plantation Bay Resort and Spa’s general manager Efren Belarmino told The Freeman and The Philippine STAR.

The former two hard courts at the posh resort at the Mactan Island have been reconstructed into a one-clay outdoor court. It had been designed in such a way that in case it rains hard and water may seep through the court covers in short period of time to make it playable again.

Even before the matches could start, some tennis veterans and enthusiasts have already regarded the newly-constructed courts to be the best in the region.

“It’s a Davis Cup World Group standard court size and it’s classified as a natural clay court by the ITF, using underground mineral aggregates,” said Davis Cup-Philippines’ administrator Randy Villanueva.

Plantation Bay is able to finish the re-construction of their tennis court already despite the delay caused by the erratic weather condition.

Room bookings are already coming in. Plantation Bay has a total of 256 rooms, including 20 suites and three Spa Indulgence Rooms.

Plantation Bay is also expecting some high-profile personalities from different countries to witness the event.

Davis Cup guests also get a hassle-free purchase on tickets for the three-day event as Plantation Bay purchased worth P130,000 tickets from the Lapu-lapu city government.
