Que sets sights on rich Avantha Masters

MANILA, Philippines - After recently adding the Country Club Invitational at the TCC course in Canlubang, Laguna to his growing legend, Angelo Que is setting his sights on the super rich $2.3 million Avantha Masters slated Feb. 17-20 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi, India.

“Definitely I’m participating,” said the 32-year-old Que, whose TCC victory earned him about P1.4 million in cash as he became the first to win the event two straight years as well as the first to win in the ICTSI-bankrolled circuit three times.

In the Avantha Masters, Que, a protege of ICTSI golf chief Bong Lopez who also coaches TCC best amateur Andrea Unson, will be up against the best not just in the Asian region but also the in the world, including last year’s champion Andrew Dodt of Australia.

“I’m expecting a really tough competition but I will prepare hard for it,” said Que. – Joey Villar 

and hopefully I’ll play better there,” said Que, who also made mention of Lopez for being his coach.

Truly, the top purse worth a cool US $1.8 million should make the four-day golf tournament a lot more interesting.

“A lot of top international golfers are going there, there’s a lot of prestige at stake there aside from the huge money,” said Que.

Que is looking to add the Avantha Masters to his feather after he topped the 2004 Carlsberg Masters in Vietnam, the 2008 Philippine Open and 2010 Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters in Malaysia.

Aside from the New Dalhi tilt, Que said he’s also eyeing to participate in some of the legs in the Japan circuit starting April.

“I will join some of the legs in the Japan Tour, that would be part of my schedule,” said Que.

Of course, part of the plan for Que is to continue playing in the ICTSI Tour where he hopes to continue his winning ways.

“Definitely I’ll be competing in the ICTSI Tour but not all the legs because some will really run conflict with big international tournaments, it will really depend on the scheduling,” said Que.
