MANILA, Philippines – Orly Trinidad of radio station DZBB bagged the overall title for the second straight time in the ninth San Miguel Corp. (SMC) Media Invitational golf tournament at Wack Wack’s West Course recently.
Trinidad carded a gross of 75 while the Classes A, B and C championship trophies went to Inquirer Radio’s Jay Sonza (72 net), Inquirer’s Ernie Gonzales (73 net) and DZBB’s Joel Reyes Zobel (72.4 net), respectively.
Placing second and third to Sonza in Class A were Business Mirror’s Ricky Alegre and Inquirer’s Raul Marcelo in the tournament backed by San Miguel Brewery, Inc., Petron Corporation, San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. and Ginebra San Miguel, Inc.
Taking first and second runner-up trophies in Class B were Manila Standard Today’s Ramon Tomeldan and Manila Standard Today’s Rey Enano (73.2). Tomeldan actually tied Gonzales with a 73 but the latter had a better score at 46-49 in the last nine holes.
Class C second and third placers were DWIZ’s Rey Pacheco (78.4) and Malaya’s Ducky Paredes (78.6) in the tournament that employed the Modified Peoria format and participated in by 43 golfers from print and broadcast entities.
Fun hole awards went to Manila Standard’s Jojo Robles (Nearest to the Pin),Orly Trinidad (Most Accurate Drive) and Inquirer’s Jun Engracia (Longest Drive).
On hand to award the prizes were SMC vice president for corporate affairs Ramon Santiago, SMC sports director Robert Non, SMC consultant Elpi Cuna, SMC assistant vice president-media group Mary Jane Llanes and SMC media relations manager Jayson Brizuela.
