MANILA, Philippines – Brothers Rafael and Roberto Miguel Jalnaiz led another surge by the Misamis Oriental boxers who dominated the second day of the semifinal round of the 2011 PLDT-ABAP National Amateur Boxing Championships at the MisOr Provincial Capitol Garden in Cagayan de Oro yesterday.
MisOr sent five of its seven fighters into the gold medal round, making it 12 after seven others reached the finals in the first semis the other day.
Rafael, 12, retired Jay-Ar Duga-Duga of Aglayan, Malaybalay, Bukidnon to advance to the finals of the kids powderweight, while the Robert Miguel, 13, scored a referee-stopped contest (RSC) win over Jaye Arce Arcilla of Mandaluyong in the school boys mosquitoweight match.
Rafael and Robert Miguel are sons of two-time Olympian Roberto Jalnaiz, now head coach of the MisOr amateur boxing program.
Joining the Jalnaizes in the gold medal stage are Carlo Paalam (kids cottonweight), Harmonito de la Torre (Jr. boys featherweight) and Jean Vee Flores (youth girls bantamweight).
MisOr casualties were brothers Klemen Earl and Maurico Cabanit, who bowed to Eumir Marcial of Zamboanga City I, 4-5, (jr. boys light flyweight) and to Wenie Clide Verano of Valencia-Bukidnon, 5-11 (youth lightflyweight), respectively.
