SSC spikers enter final
MANILA, Philippines – Reigning titlist San Sebastian survived a tough second set challenge by Emilio Aguinaldo College before posting a 25-11, 25-23, 25-14 victory to advance to the finals in the women’s division of the 86th NCAA volleyball competition at the EAC gym yesterday.
Last year’s MVP Joy Benito and Elaine Cruz combined for 30 hits as they led the SSC squad’s net attack for another crack at the crown in the best-of-three finals against Letran starting Monday.
The Lady Knights eked out a tension-filled 25-23, 25-10, 23-25, 25-15 victory over the stubborn San Beda spikers in the other semifinal match.
Power-hitter Mharu Burce unleashed 19 hits while the crisp-hitting Manel Carolino unloaded 16 to send the Muralla-based school to its first championship appearance in five years.
