CKS thumps St. Stephen

MANILA, Philippines - Chiang Kai Shek College thumped St. Stephen’s High School, 63-52, to boost its semifinal bid in the Freego Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball high school tournament at the CKSC gym last Tuesday.

With Arvin Faustino at the helm, the Blue Dragons, owners of 14 titles, came through with a decisive run in the payoff period to secure their fifth win in eight games in the annual tournament among the country’s top Fil-Chinese schools.

Faustino finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists to earn the Freego Player of the Game award.

In the other game of the tournament backed by PCSO, Davies Paints, Welcoat, Orocan, Puma, Fern-C, Bantex, PG-Flex, Molten, Healthy Options, Bow & Wow, Burlington, MEC Computer, Converse, Gold’s Gym and Absolute, St. Jude repeated over Grace Christian College, 92-61.

Ryan Chua starred for last year’s runner-up by posting 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Judenites ended a three-game losing streak.

The win enabled St. Jude to tie Chiang Kai Shek for third to fourth places.

Also shining for the Judenites were Jason Ligad and Mark Ong who fired 27 and 14 points. Chua emerged best player of the match.
