POC recognizes Dungo, newly elected PVF officers
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has officially recognized Gener Dungo as the new Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president, paving the way for the association’s early preparation for this year’s 26th Jakarta, Indonesia Southeast Asian Games in November.
POC president Jose Cojuangco, who inducted the new volleyball officials over the weekend at the POC office in the Philsports Arena in Pasig, enjoined Dungo and the officers to improve and develop the sport and make it a winner again in the Southeast Asian Games.
“I’m very happy that the new leaders in volleyball are aiming for a new direction in developing the sport to greater heights,” said Cojuangco. “I’m wishing all the best for them.”
Besides Dungo, other elected officers are former president Pedro Mendoza (chairman), Karl Chan (vice president), Vic Abalos (commissioner), Roger Banzuela (treasurer), Dulce Pante (auditor), Vangie de Jesus (secretary-general), and Ian Laurel (PRO).
Nestor Bello, Marvin Trinidad, Yul Benosa, Dax Yambao, Freddie Infante, Gerry Jamili and Boy Cantada are members of the board of directors.
“We will do everything to strengthen our national team by hiring Fil-foreign players that will compete in different tournaments like the Southeast Asian Games and Asian Games,” said Dungo, who also planning to form a commercial volleyball league.
“We will implement the Volleyball Integrated Management System, a combination of management and technical expertise of our officials. I will create an ad hoc committee to change our constitution and adopt the FIVB management system,” he said.
The PVF also appointed Senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Pia Cayetano as honorary chairman and chairwoman, respectively..
