Karting clinic to kick off Castrol racing program

-

MANILA, Philippines - Castrol Philippines is launching the “Castrol Champions of the Future” discovery program with a karting clinic today at the Carmona Circuit Philippines.

Castrol, a leading global oil company, has been involved in motor racing in the past 61 years of Formula One racing. Looking at Asia as the next power in world motorsports racing, it has tapped the services of Tuason Racing School in carrying out the search for young racing talents aged 7-13 years old who dream of becoming a future karting champ.

Interested participants can still register just before the clinic starts at 8 a.m.

“Castrol came up with this program in its commitment to intensify its thrust as a major player in world motorsports. We are looking at Asia as the next power in world motorsports, particularly Filipinos who we believe are equally talented in this field,” said Castrol president Mars Sota.

“Jovy Marcelo came close to that dream as a top rookie contender in Indy 500. Michelle Bumgarner, who started with Tuason Racing School, has started to make her name in the Indy Light series.

Joining Castrol and TRS as partners in the program are The Philippine STAR the Automobile Association Philippines, Alaska, Pena Motorsports, AUTS Racing, Tuason Racing School, Bridgestone, Puma, OMP, Jaguar, Lifeline, Carmona Race Track, Manla Auto Salon, 99.5RTFM, Trapik.com, Kzone, Top Gear and Timezone.

“Just like all the world champions, they have to start training at a young age and learn the racing basics through karting which is the very grassroot of all motorsports. We’re happy that Castrol chose Tuason Racing School to be a part of this program as we share the common vision to create the next batch of Filipino racers who can reach the Formula 1 dream,” said TRS president JP Tuason.

Qualified participants must join one of the karting clinics to be conducted by Tuason Racing School where they will learn the basics of karting.

Twenty scholarship slots will be given to the most deserving kids after the clinic which will include subsidies to race the 2011 Castrol Champions of the Future Series. The event will be a one-make series that will develop the skill and discipline of the new racers.

To complete the journey into becoming a bona fide champion, The winner of the four-leg race series will be given a scholarship package to run in the National Karting Series from AAP under the tutelage of multi awarded race car drivers and champion makers JP and Mike Tuason.
