DLS-Lipa topples CSA in Toby's jr volley
MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle-Lipa overcame Colegio San Agustin’s gritty stand to hack out a 25-17, 25-18 victory and grab the lead in the Boys A division of the Toby’s Juniors Volleyball League at the CSA gym last week.
Joshua Diaz, last season’s candidate for best attacker, unloaded nine kills as he powered last year’s runners-up to their second straight victory for the solo lead in the tournament sponsored by Toby’s Sports. DLS-Lipa also beat Academy of God’s Children, 25-9, 25-8.
Elizabeth Seton School trails DLS-Lipa with a 1-0 mark while CSA dropped to 1-1 and St. Mary’s Academy and AGC tote 0-1 and 0-2 cards, respectively.
Concepcion Elem. School, meanwhile, shows the way in Boys B with a 2-0 slate followed by Palanan Elem. School (1-1) while Xavier School and Ateneo have identical 0-1 records.
In girls play, F. Benitez III Elem. School repulsed Miriam College, 25-17, 25-16, to wrest the lead in the A group with a 2-0 mark. DLS-Lipa and DLS-Zobel are in joint second with 1-0 slates while Miriam College and Jesus Christ Academy have 1-2 and 0-3 cards, respectively.
DLS-Canlubang bounced back from its opening day loss to CSA as it thwarted St. Mary’s Academy to even its card to 1-1 in Girls B, which is paced by CSA (3-0).with three straight victories in the tournament backed by Shakey’s Pizza, LBC, Mikasa and Asics.
MGC New Christian Academy fought back from a set down to turn back Elizabeth Seton, 22-25, 25-9, 25-17, to tie DLS-Canlubang.
