Trillanes taps Ledesma for 2011 table tennis program
MANILA, Philippines - Table tennis president Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has assigned fellow board trustee Ting Ledesma to manage the 2011 training program, which aims to assemble a competitive national team.
Ledesma vows to implement an honest-to-goodness grassroots development program for boys and girls.
“Under our grassroots program, the players will stay in one venue, giving our coaches more time to focus on their training,” said Ledesma.
He said TATAP will concentrate on the 25, 17 and 14-under-boys and girls divisions from which the national men and women’s squad will be formed.
TATAP is also planning to hire a Chinese coach to train the national team and put up a training site in Marikina.
The TATAP board includes Dante Boquirin, lawyer Domingo Panlilio, John Rex Tiu, Jay Omila, Cesar Hawthorne Binag, lawyer Eric Acejo and Jose Ortalla.
“For the regional presidents, I’m planning to ask them the list of their recommended players and we’re planning to create a rating system to classify and rank the athletes,” he said.
The new TATAP officers also promised to help all regional and club presidents regarding the hosting of their respective tournaments in terms of equipment.
