MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Mimo Tomacruz led the seeded players’ charge into semifinals of the rain-hit 2010 Andrada Cup age-group tennis championship yesterday at the Rizal memorial Tennis Center.
Tomacruz, ranked third nationally among boys in the 12-under bracket, whipped No. 7 Manuel Balce III, 6-0, 6-1, to storm into the semis against another seeded bet, No. 4 Alberto Lim, Jr.
Lim advanced via walk-over on a day heavy rains delayed most matches and forced organizers to reset the afternoon slates.
No. 3 Jerome Romualdez outduelled No. 6 Mar Raphael Teng, 6-1, 7-5, to earn his spot against Mahmod Dimacuta, the first player to reach the Last 4 via a 6-1, 6-3 win over Norman Gaspar the other day.
Unseeded Mohamad Amerol, meanwhile, threw a wrench on Tomacruz’s bid over at the boys’ 14-U class, scoring a 6-3, 6-0 upset of the seventh seeded bet for a place in the quarterfinals.
The other seeds easily got through, led by No. 2 Daniel Villasenor, who hurdled past Matthew Tan, 6-0, 6-0, to set up a Last 8 duel with Amerol.
Third seed Eric Jed Olivarez Jr. dumped Mahmod Dimacuta, 6-2, 6-1, to advance against No. 5 Marcen Gonzales, a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Brysl Libao.
