Subic hosts 'clean, green marathon'

MANILA, Philippines - Phil. National Police Director General Raul Bacalso heads a big group of PNP runners in the third Subic International Marathon which fires off Sunday at the Remy Field inside the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

“Running is not just being done for a healthy lifestyle, but it is also a way of transformation,” said Gen. Bacalso. “Running needs dedication, and we in the PNP, should also be dedicated in everything we do as protectors of the nation.”

Gen. Bacalso is set to take part in the 10k race along with his predecessor Gen. Jesus Versoza and SIM founder Gen. Sam Tucay (Ret) and boxing champion Drian Francisco.

According to Tucay, one of the important roles played by the SIM was changing the lifestyle of people. He had seen that when he was still in the PNP’s service.

Other events on tap in the SIM, with a theme Run for Fun and Transformation, are the 3k, 5k, 21k and the 42k main race.

The event, organized by Extribe, is backed by Smart Sports, 100 Plus Sports Drink, Summit Drinking Water, Deuter, Total Fitness, Subic EnerZone, Ceres, Global Destiny Cable, Multisport, OneSport and Jam 88.3 FM, Chris Sports and Subic Residencias.

Late registration for the 42, 21 and 10k races will be held Jan. 7-8 in Subic although participants will have to do self-timing since the system of the new RFID has been set to cut off to ensure concise race results.

Listup for the 3k and 5k runs will be accommodated up to race day.
