Top jungolfers, foreign bets clash tomorrow

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office 11th Philippine International Junior Golf Championships gets under way tomorrow with Jobim Carlos and Bino de la Paz leading the local challenge against some 40 foreign rivals at the Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba.

The local bets get to size up the competition after registration in the practice round at 8 a.m.

Junior players from Taiwan, China, Singapore, US, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Korea make up the foreign cast in the annual tournament featuring the country’s leading and rising junior golfers.

They include Princess Superal, AR Ramos, Angela de Villa and Andrea Unson who are tipped to contend for the crown in the three-day tournament sponsored by PCSO.

The foreign entries arrived Monday and are billeted at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City.

Maynilad bottled water is the official drinking water of the tournament organized by the Philippine Junior Golf Federation headed by Edgardo Cantada.

“We want 2011 to be banner year for Philippine junior golf and we hope this event will kick off that bid,” said tournament director Gerard Cantada.
