Hermida, Salamat UAAP-NC awardees

-

San Beda’s Borgie Hermida and Ateneo’s Eric Salamat will add another distinction to their colorful collegiate basketball careers with the Super Senior awards that will be given to both standouts by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps in the Collegiate Basketball Awards this month.

The UAAP-NCAA Press Corps selected Hermida and Salamat for their stellar plays on their final collegiate playing year.

The annual awards night is set at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the Topaz 1 of the Gateway Suites in Cubao, Quezon City.

Far Eastern University’s RR Garcia and San Beda’s Sudan Daniel will also be honored in the Collegiate Mythical Five along with Ateneo’s Kirk Long, FEU’s Aldrech Ramos and San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva.

Ateneo’s Norman Black (UAAP Coach of the Year) and San Beda’s Frankie Lim (NCAA Coach of the Year) are also among the list of awardees together with Ateneo’s Ryan Buenafe and San Beda’s Garvo Lanete (Pivotal Players) in the event presented by Smart.

The awards night is also supported by ACCEL, 316, FilOil, Terrilicious, Gatorade, San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Sportswriters Association.

Hermida remained a force with San Beda by averaging 11.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.1 steals. The senior playmaker helped lead the Red Lions, who completed a historic 18-0 sweep, to their fifth NCAA title in six years.

The graduation of Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Nonoy Baclao from the Ateneo camp, meanwhile, prompted Salamat to act as the team’s leader.

He took the role with ease as he led the Blue Eagles in points (11.3), assists (4.1) and steals (1.9) en route to their third straight UAAP men’s basketball championship.
