Big Dome launches Big Cube in PBA semis

MANILA, Philippines - Coinciding with the resumption of the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs, the Araneta Coliseum launches Wednesday a giant LED screen aptly called the “Big Cube.”

“It is part of our continued commitment to our partner promoters and to our patrons as well as to provide world-class entertainment to as many people as possible,” said Siena Olaso, Uniform Inc. director for entertainment and marketing.

“This is our way of supporting leagues like the PBA, the UAAP and the NCAA. We really want as many people to get to watch the games and shows. With this, people at Upper-A or B or General Admission watch the games like they’re at ringside front row,” Olaso added.

The Araneta Coliseum management has just purchased the LED Cube from Florida. It will be used for basketball games for the first time Wednesday.

The Big Cube at the Big Dome is now the world’s biggest four-screen high-definition LED Cube, much bigger than the former LED scoreboard with a size of 22.22 square meters.

It’s also said to be several times clearer at 10mm pitch. The Dallas Cowboys football stadium uses only 20mm pitch.

Olaso said the Big Cube hangs in the middle of the Big Dome directly above the field of play, ensuring that every spectator watches the action with great comfort and added excitement.

“To coliseum spectators and sports fans, this translates to crystal-clear images of the action unfolding at the center of the coliseum from all points of the venue, whether from elevated patron seats or general admission bleachers,” Olaso said.

“During sporting events, the four-faced Big Cube will project everything from stat-video splits, full scoring mode, or full video mode,” Olaso added.

The Big Cube is said to be also capable of displaying up to two live video feeds in split format.

“It can likewise display ticker information from RSS feeds via an internet source. This is particularly exciting for the hordes of basketball fans during the PBA, UAAP and NCAA games,” Olaso explained.

The Big Cube was initially unveiled during the later showings of the “Splendide: The Grand China National Acrobatics Circus.”

“The Big Cube showed in stark detail the lithe movements of the acrobats’ complex acts,” Olaso said.

The Big Cube was procured from the ADSystems, a leading supplier of cutting edge LED technology based in Florida, USA.

The Big Cube could well be an added thrill and excitement for in-venue PBA fans.

The PBA Philippine Cup games resume Wednesday with Talk n Text gunning for a 2-0 lead over B-MEG Derby Ace in their best-of-seven semis. San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra meet in Game One of their own series.
