MANILA, Philippines - Malaysians Milvia Alex, Natasha Quadra and Lucas Chong Kiat survived the assault of the local age groupers with victories in their respective divisions yesterday in the 2010 Milo Junior Tennis Cup at the Philam Homes Tennis Club in Quezon City.
Alex edged Gladys Dimaculangan, 7-5, 1-6, 10-7, to barge into the semifinal round of the girls’ 18-under class and set up a contest with top seed Samantha Cuyuito, who made short work of Camilla Chong Liyang 6-1, 6-1.
Monica Banez turned back Kimberly Ye, 6-4, 6-3, in the other bracket and takes on Patricia Orteza for a finals berth in the Milo netfest organized by the CTW Group with sanction from the Philippine Tennis Association and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee.
Quadra, who together with Alex, Chong Kiat, Kimberly, Chong Liyang, Stefan Sundang Alex, Daryl Quek, Gideon Madelin, Gibson Madelin and Cheryl Ye are outstanding junior netters of the KK Chin Tennis Academy in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, likewise gained a Final 4 slot against Katrina Orteza in the girls’ 16-under bracket.
In the boys’ 14-under division, Chong Kiat scored contrasting wins over Andre Erang, 6-0, 6-0, and Joel Atienza, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7, to move into the quarterfinal round.
