MANILA, Philippines – Hur Jeong Tae carded 35 points while Mario Monsalve churned out a 44-point output to capture the overall gross and net titles, respectively, in the Manila Southwoods Chairman’s Charity Cup at the Masters and Legends courses in Carmona, Cavite last weekend.
Bong Sison scored 42 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system then nipped Raul Magpantay in the countback to cop the Division I crown in the annual tournament held in honor of Southwoods’ chairman Robert John Sobrepeña.
Thirdy Escano ended up third with 40 points..
Jun de Grano turned in 44 points then edged Mario Badillo in the countback in another tight battle for the Division II title. Bing Lapus placed third with 42 points.
Marcelino Yu, on the other hand, prevailed in a three-way for first in Division III, winning in the countback over Chih Chih Hou and Ike Yusingco. The troika wound up with similar 44 points.
JC Mercado snatched the Division IV plum, defeating Jose Guevarra in the countback after both players wound up with 43 points. Fernando Malvda took third place with 42 points.
Mentz Deguito shot 44 points then nipped Manolo Agojo in the countback to rule the Seniors Division of the event sponsored by Warbird Security and Investigation Agency, Inc. and PLDT.
Cynthia Antonio fired 44 points and essayed a one-point victory over Heidi Schettkat for the Division I title in the ladies category of the event backed by hole-in-one sponsors Mitsubishi Phils. Corp./Diamond Motors, Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, Korean Airlines, Pacsports, The Turf Company, El Nido Resort, Dynamic Sports, SYM Motorbike, Mit-Air Sales Center, Inc., Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils., Master Sports Corp. and Wilson.
Ma. Belle Villanueva made 41 points and finished third in the tournament which also donated 700 pieces of gift items to the Carmona Day Care Center.
Esmeralda Bernabe took the Division II crown by edging Soon Ja Park in the countback after both turned in 44 points. Tomiko Matsunaga came in third with 43 points.
Junie Fontanilla, a 9-handicapper, ruled the guests/sponsors category as he shot a net 70.
and nipped Gaston de Tagle, a 13-handicapper, and Tony Villaruel, toting an 18 handicap, in the countback.
