MANILA, Philippines - Xavier School smothered Chiang Kai Shek College, 104-84, to kick off its title-retention bid the juniors division of the Freego Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association tournament at the St. Jude Catholic School gym last Sunday.
World Youth Games veteran Jeron Teng led the Golden Stallions’ charge with 34 points. He also made 11 rebounds, eight steals and five assists in an outstanding performance that netted him the Freego Player of the Game award.
Four other Stallions scored in double figures with Chase Tan and Caesar Angelo Wongchuking combining for 25 points in the tournament sponsored by Welcoat, Orocan, Puma, Fern-C and Bantex.
Wongchuking also helped shackle Chiang Kai Shek’s top gunner Paul Aduana in the first half where the Golden Stallions made a decisive attack for a big 55-38 lead at halftime.
With Chiang Kai Shek’s defeat, St. Jude Catholic School grabbed the solo lead as it downed St. Stephen’s High School, 84-75, in the first game of the tournament backed by Healthy Options, Bow & Wow, Burlington, MEC Computer, Converse, Davis Paints, Gold’s Gym and Absolute.
