Falcons regroup, overrun Bulldogs in UAAP volley

MANILA, Philippines –  Adamson University clawed back from one-set down to beat National U, 26-28, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, and seize solo third in the UAAP Season 73 women’s volleyball tourney at the Arena.

Veterans Pau Soriano and Angela Benting anchored AdU’s attack with 18 and 14 points, respectively, as the Lady Falcons notched their third straight win for 4-2 win-loss card.

AdU stood half a game behind joint leaders La Salle and defending champion University of Santo Tomas which had identical 5-0 slates going into the Christmas break.

The Lady Bulldogs, who got 16 from Maricar Nepomuceno and 15 from Carmina Aganon but committed 35 errors, slipped to 3-3 and solo fourth.

La Salle and UST continued to dominate the field with victories Saturday.

The Lady Archers turned back Far Eastern 25-15, 20-25, 25-12, 25-20, for its fifth straight win while the Tigresses shellacked University of the East, 25-7, 25-14, 25-10, to cap a 17-game unbeaten run in 2010 dating back to the homestretch of Season 72.

In the men’s side, University of the Philippines joined La Salle at third spot with 3-2 after scoring a 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 win over National U (1-5).

Ateneo improved to 2-4 via its 26-24, 25-16, 25-20 drubbing of University of the East (1-4).

Four-peat-seeking UST Tigers and FEU Tamaraws occupied the top with 5-0 slates following Saturday’s triumphs over Adamson, 25-18, 25-15, 25-16, and La Salle, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21, respectively.

The Warriors dropped to 1-4 while Bulldogs went down to 1-5.
