MANILA, Philippines - Sixth seed Albert Lim Jr. sustained his giant-killing charge to rule the boys’ 14-and-under division of the Philippine Sports Commission National Age Group Tennis Championships yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
After pulling the rug from under No. 2 seed Romnee Kyle Joseph in the semis, Lim claimed the scalp of top pick Daniel Villasenor in the finals, 6-0, 6-4, to complete his title run in the weeklong junior netfest.
Joining Lim in the winners’ circle with similar straight-set championship triumphs were Calvin Canlas and Marian Jade Capadocia in the 16-U competitions; Julian Dayrit in boys’ 12-U; and Joseph Tiamson in the unisex 10-U play.
No. 4 Canlas defeated No. 6 Hans Asistio, 6-4, 6-0, while top pick Capadocia prevented girls’ 14-U champ Ma. Angelica Sunga’s bid for a second tiara with a 6-2, 6-0 conquest.
Both top seeds, Dayrit and Tiamson dismantled No. 2 rivals Mimo Tomacruz, 7-6 (2), 6-3, and Chloe Mae Saraza, 6-3, 6-1, respectively, to emerge champions for the second straight tourney after last week’s PSC Metro age-group tilt.
