MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Southwoods Chairman’s Charity Cup reels off today with a merry mix of players numbering around 450 slugging it out for top honors in various divisions at the Masters and Legends courses in Carmona, Cavite.
A wide array of prizes, ranging from a Mitsubishi Lancer EX GLX M/T and a Royal Caribbean cruise to Canadian trip to golf carts and vacation packages to El Nido Resort, is up for grabs in the two-day annual tournament held in honor of Southwoods’ chairman Robert John Sobrepeña.
The car and the tour package to Alaska and other Asian destinations are staked as hole-in-one prizes along with the golf carts courtesy of Pacsports (Club Car Precedent Electrical) and The Turf Company (Texas Eagle golf cart).
Korean Airlines will also give away two business class tickets to Vancouver, Canada for a hole-in-one feat in the event sponsored by Warbird Security and Investigation Agency, Inc. and PLDT.
The El Nido Resort is also offering a vacation package for two, including airfare while Dynamic Sports will give away a Titleist iron golf set for an ace. Other hole-in-one sponsors are SYM Motorbike, MIt-Air Sales Center, Inc. (airconditioning unit, 2HP split type), Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils. Inc. (Boracay golf package with airfare), Master Sports Corp. (Mizuno/Taylor Made) and Wilson.
To accommodate the big number of entries, two shotgun starts will be held at 7:30 a.m. at the Legends course and at 8 a.m. at the Masters today and tomorrow. Play will be under the Modified Stableford scoring system with the awards rites set at the Masters Verandah tomorrow.
Eli Malaya emerged the low gross champion while Doods Antipuesto took the net crown in last year’s staging of the event backed by APGC, Café de Lipa, Camp John Hay Project Management, Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon Law Offices, Dusit Thani Manila, Electro Mechanical Products Int’l., Foodenizer, Inc., Forest Hills Golf and Country Club, G&W Clubshares, Inc., Global Travel and Golden Nutritious Foods Corp.
