Foreigners rule Lanao motocross; Aguilar top rider
MANILA, Philippines - The foreign riders dominated the Lanao International Motocross Invitational even as Glenn Aguilar won his eighth Rider of the Year trophy at the Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte last Sunday.
Tyler Lacey, back from a major injury he sustained in the American motocross circuit early in the year, ruled both heats of the international pro class to cop the overall crown.
He beat fellow American Daniel Blair in the early laps of the 12-lap first moto while Aguilar broke his fork seal and had trouble keeping up with the leaders before finishing among the top five.
In the second moto, Lacey pulled away early from Blair en route to victory in the event which drew over 300 participants, including boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Buboy Fernandez.
Aguilar, meanwhile, overtook MXA magazine assistant editor Dennis Stapleton while New Zealand’s 18-year old sensation Jake Locks finished fourth overall,
“I’ve been all over Europe, and the track here is really great,” said Lacey. “The people have been great. I hope to come back and defend next year.”
